Voip Gateway is the mediator in the broadband network

The era of voip phones is not coming to an end but it is exploding. It is growing and it will be the next biggest thing in the coming years. Everyone is beginning to switch from the conventional phone lines to this service. With this technology, you can call any computer/phone from your house through the internet. In another words, you can call anyone in the world.

This service is growing in popularity around the world and the voip system from your house is connected to the computer network just like any phone network. It is the entry point which you get connected to the internet, just like typical internet gateways. In another word, this network is connected to a voip gateway which will connect the whole network to the internet.

What Does The Voip Gateway Do?

A voip system works basically by transforming analog voice calls into data packets, sending the packets over broadband computer networks. After that it will translate it back to voice at the other end of the line or call. What the voip gateway does here is to bridge the circuit-switched telephone network into the packet-switched data network. Voip is a very flexible technology and it can work both ways.

It will allow calls from regular phone line to be transferred over the network to a compatible terminal point. This can be a computer-client or another regular phone terminal point.

If one voip gateway can provide you such powerful mediation works, can you imagine the combination of several gateways. Having multiple gateways connected together can create a giant virtual integrated network that allows users to make calls over the multiple IP data networks. This is without the need of having to connect to the internet at the first place.

How the System Works Through This Gateway?

All gateways function in the same way and it doesn’t matter which manufacturer or brand. There are usually no inter-operability problems even if the multiple gateways are of multiple brands.

There are some basic operations of how the system works. The voip gateway that is connected to your standard telephone line will takes the voice that comes in and converts it from analog signals to digital signals. After which, it will break down the digital format into smaller units known as data packets. This is then transported through the internet line.

The data packets will find its way to the nearest voip gateway and to your indicated destination. Of cause this gateway will do the same function in reverse by translating the signal back into an analog format. Finally, the transferred signal will then be directed to the number you dialed.
